After developing a certain level of pottery skills and beginning our practice, we often encounter challenges in creating innovative functional products that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also meet the everyday needs and challenges of the user or client. These products can range from something as simple as attaching a dip bowl to a nacho platter to more complex creations, like a sound-emitting cat feeder that alerts you when it’s empty.

There’s no need to rely on social media reels for inspiration — you can design these innovative products yourself!

This online course is designed to guide artists through the process of developing creative, user-friendly, and aesthetically appealing ceramic products, elevating their skills to a market-ready level. The course includes:

  1. Introduction to Design Elements and Principles
  2. Good Design vs. Bad Design
  3. Importance of Ergonomics and Semiotics in Design
  4. Fundamentals of the Design Process

Students will undertake a self-driven, four-week project, receiving timely guidance from the instructor. This hands-on experience will take them through every stage of the design process, from ideation to prototyping, and receiving critical feedback from potential users to refine the final product. The course encourages collaboration among fellow artists or artisans to achieve better functional design outcomes.

The course concludes with a collective creative review and presentation, allowing participants to receive constructive feedback from the community, including fellow artists and the instructor, to further refine their work.
